RIDGWAY, PA
On October 22, 2003, the District 9 Committee meeting was held at Aiello’s Café in Ridgway, PA. Chairman Hoover called the meeting to order.
The following members were present: D.J. Bevevino, Roger Collins, Gary Elder, Denny Geitner, Terry Hoover, Jeff Jovenitti, Jerry Linsenbigler, Jim Manners, Larry Stiner, Aaron Straub, Susan Valentine, Cindy Wagner, Tom Wagner, and Bob Wicker.
A motion was made by D.J. Bevevino and seconded by Susan Valentine to accept the minutes of the September 24, 2003 meeting. The motion carried.
A motion was made by Jim Manners and seconded by Jeff Jovenitti to accept the treasurer’s report. The motion carried.
A motion was made by Roger Collins and seconded by Bob Wicker to authorize the payment of bills. The motion carried.
ELIGIBILITY:
A motion was made by Larry Stiner and seconded by Jeff Jovenitti to grant athletic eligibility to the following foreign exchange students:
Christioher Mai (Moniteau High School)
Wanarin Gasaluck (Elk County Catholic High School)
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
CHEERLEADING: (JEFF JOVENITTI, CHAIRMAN)
Cheerleading competition will be held at the Clarion University on November 8, 2003. Since cheerleading is not recognized as a PIAA sport, the District 9 Committee cannot sponsor this event.
FINANCE: (BOB TONKIN, CHAIRMAN)
The finance committee will meet on October 31, 2003 at Cameron County High School at 1:00 PM.
MERCHANDISE: (JERRY LINSENBIGLER, CHAIRMAN)
Shirts will sold at cross country, soccer, and volleyball events. There may be a pre-sale of shirts for district football.
FOOTBALL: (LARRY STINER, CHAIRMAN)
To break the tie for the third seed in “A” football, the Gardner Point will be used. There is the possibility of using Clarion University to host the district final games. The possibility of the district committee running a 50/50 was discussed.
The chairmen of cross-country, soccer, and volleyball mentioned the location, dates, times, and some results for their sport.
OLD BUSINESS:
The updated District 9 Handbook is on the District 9 website.
A motion was made by Larry Stiner and seconded by Gary Elder to grant voting powers to the District 9 female officials’ representative. The motion carried.
The election for officials’ representative will take place this school year. The electived representatives will serve for the 2004-05 and 2005-06 years.
Students enrolled in Cyber Charter Schools are to be treated in the same manner as home school students for athletic eligibility considerations.
NEW BUSINESS:
The PIAA Board of Directors has approved the transfers of Rocky Grove High School, Venango Catholic High School, Cranberry Area High School, Sheffield Area High School, East Forest High School and West Forest High School from District 10 to District 9.
A motion was made by Larry Stiner and seconded by Gary Elder to accept the resignation of Jeff Jovenitti as the District 9 School Boards Association representative. The resignation was accepted with regret.
A motion was made by D.J. Bevevino and seconded by Susan Valentine to permit Jeff Jovenitti to serve as the male parents’ representative for District 9. The motion carried.
The possibility of District 3 moving into the western region for inter-district football was discussed. More information is to be obtained by the district chairman.
A motion was made by D.J. Bevevino and seconded by Jerry Linsenbigler to adjourn. The motion carried.
