DISTRICT 9 COMMITTEE MEETING

SEPTEMBER 26, 2001

RIDGWAY, PA

 

The District 9 Committee held the September 26, 2001 meeting at Aiello`s Café in Ridgway, PA.

 

The following members were present: D.J. Bevevino, Roger Collins, Tony Flint, Terry Hoover, Jeff Jovenitti, Jerry Linsenbigler, Jim Manners, Frank Palaggo, Larry Stiner, Aaron Straub, Susan Valentine, and Tom Wagner.

 

Chairman Hoover called the meeting to order at 9:30 AM.

 

A correction to the minutes of the August 27, 2001 meeting is Carissa Wilcox was granted athletic eligibility.  She is transferring from DuBois Area High School to First Baptist Academy.

 

A motion was made by D.J. Bevevino and seconded by Jeff Jovenitti to accept the minutes of the August 27, 2001 meeting with the correction.  The motion carried.

 

A motion was made by Jim Manners and seconded by Tony Flint to accept the treasurers` report.  The motion carried.

 

A motion was made by Tony Flint and seconded by Jim Manners to authorize the payment of bills.  The motion carried.

 

A motion was made by Tom Wagner and seconded by Jim Manners to grant athletic eligibility to the following exchange students:

                Lucas Silvia - Bradford Area High School

                Avslan Karajikov – Brockway Area High School

                Rosa Perez – Brockway Area High School

                Francisco Fortuna – Coudersport Area High School

                Felipe Bruno – Coudersport Area High School

                Elida Melendez – DuBois Area High School

                Vera Sevastyanova – Moniteau High School

                Sebastian Luther – Ridgway Area High School

                Elena Bertusi – St. Marys Area High School

                Sauyith Nieves – Kane Area High School

                Patricia Leija – Punxsutawney Area High School

                Eileen Hurst – Clarion Area High School

                Sandeep Rajebahadan – Port Allegany High School

                Fernanfo Fernandez – Johnsonburg Area High School

The motion carried.

 

Mrs. Nancy Smoose, Athletic Director at Brookville Area High School, and Mr. James Estep, Principal at Brookville Area High School, were present and requested athletic eligibility for two Brookville Area High School students.

 

A motion was made by D.J. Bevevino and seconded by Susan Valentine to grant athletic eligibility to Tia Bright under Article 6, Section 10A.  The motion carried.

 

A motion was made by D.J. Bevevino and seconded by Roger Collins to grant athletic eligibility to Charles Schalk under Article 3, Section 3.  The motion carried by a ten to two vote.

 

The following individuals expressed an interest in filling the two vacant seats on the District 9 Committee:

                Bob Wicker – Principal, Oswayo Valley High school

                Gary Elder – Principal, Redbank Valley High School

                Mark Whisner – Athletic Director, Keystone High school

                Gregg Posteraro – Athletic Director, DuBois Central Catholic High School

                Terry Straub – Athletic Director, St. Marys Area High School

Mr. Bob Wicker and Mr. Gary Elder were selected by the committee to fill the vacancies.

 

A letter was received from John Post (from District 10) concern softball sites in District 9 for inter-district softball games.  The letter was forwarded to the softball chairman.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

BOYS` GOLF (FRANK PALAGGO – CHAIRMAN)

There are twenty-eight teams registered for the 2001-2002 tournament.

 

GIRLS` GOLF (TONY FLINT – CHAIRMAN)

Tournament entry forms will be mailed on Friday.

 

FOOTBALL (FRANK PALAGGO – CHAIRMAN)

There was a general review of the teams that may compete in the football playoff games.

 

CROSS COUNTRY (D.J. BEVEVINO – CHAIRMAN)

Mr. Mark Cortney`s company will be used to help the timing of the runners at the district meet.  Information packets will be mailed on Monday.

 

VOLLEYBALL (AARON STRAUB – CHAIRMAN)

The same format as the 2000 – 2001 tournament will be used for this years` tournament.

 

TENNIS (LARRY STINER – CHAIRMAN)

The entry forms have been completed by e-mail.  District 9 will host the District 5/9 Tournament this year.

 

SOCCER (TOM WAGNER – CHAIRMAN)

The availability of soccer fields for district matches is a major concern.

 

AWARDS (AARON STRAUB – CHAIRMAN)

Awards will be distributed to tournament chairman at the October committee meeting.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

A motion was made by Aaron Straub and seconded by D.J. Bevevino to accept the District 9 Policy Manual with corrections.  The motion carried.

 

The P.I.A.A. money market account will be discussed at a meeting to be held on October 11, 2001.

 

ON OCTOBER 11, 2001 MR. BRAD CASHMAN WILL MEET WITH HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPALS, ATHLETIC DIRECTORS, AND COMMITTEE MEMBERS AT THE DUBOIS HOLIDAY INN, AT 10:00 AM.  INFORMATION CONCERNING THIS MEETING HAS BEEN SENT TO ALL DISTRICT 9 SCHOOLS.  IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS CONCERNING THIS MEETING, CONTACT LARRY STINER OR BOB TONKIN.

 

NEW BUSINESS:

There was no new business.

 

The meeting adjourned at 12:35 PM.
