DISTRICT 9 COMMITTEE MEETING
RIDGWAY, PA
On February 11, 2004, the District 9 Committee met at Aiello’s Café in Ridgway, PA.
The following members were present: D.J. Bevevino, Roger Collins, Gary Elder, Tony Flint, Denny Geitner, Jeff Jovenitti, Jerry Linsenbigler, Jim Manners, Dave Stanley, Larry Stiner, Aaron Straub, Susan Valentine, Cindy Wagner, Tom Wagner, and Bob Wicker
Assistant Chairman, Larry Stiner, called the meeting to order.
A motion was made by Tony Flint and seconded by Bob Wicker to accept the minutes of the January 21, 2004 meeting. The motion carried.
A motion was made by Susan Valentine and seconded by D.J. Bevevino to accept the treasurer’s report. The motion carried.
A motion was made by Susan Valentine and seconded by D.J. Bevevino to authorize the payment of bills. The motion carried.
TRANSFERS AND ELIGIBILITY:
District committee action was not needed concerning the eligibility request made by Dubois Area High School, at the January meeting, to declare a student eligible who transferred from a foreign country. eligible.
A motion was made by D.J. Bevevino and seconded by Susan Valentine to grant athletic eligibility to Damien Michael Perzuti who transferred form Clarion Area High School to Union High School. Both principals signed the transfer form. The motion carried unanimously.
COMMUNICATIONS:
The District 9 Committee was notified that Mrs. Carla Smith and Mr. Denny Gietner were elected to the committee as female and male officials’ representatives. Congratulations Carla and Denny!
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
WRESTLING (Larry Stiner, Assistant Chairman)
Due to weather conditions throughout the week of the team tournament, the “AAA” matches were moved from Thursday to Saturday. The matches were held at Brockway Area High School.
MERCHANDISE (Jerry Linsenbigler, Chairman)
Order forms for wrestling and basketball shirts have been mailed to schools.
BASKETBALL (Jim Manners, Chairman)
The brackets for the 2003-2004 boys’ and girls’ basketball tournaments were presented. A motion was made by D.J. Bevevino and seconded by Dave Stanley to accept the brackets. The motion carried.
OLD BUSINESS:
None
NEW BUSINESS:
Discussion on the power rating system versus a team’s over-all record will take place at the March meeting. Also to be discussed at the next meeting will be the role of the sports subcommittees in relation to the entire district committee.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING:
Jim Manners represented District 9 at the January 31, 2004 PIAA Board of Directors meeting. Mr. Manners highlighted the following items from the meeting:
· The final meeting of the oversight counsel will be on February 24, 2004.
· Rescinded the September 4, 2003 motion to sponsor team golf tournaments.
· A new Athletic Transfer Waiver Request Form has been adopted.
· Failure to file the enrollment forms on time will result in a $1,000.00 fine plus penalties. There will be no sports until the fine and penalties are paid.
The next District 9 Committee meeting will be held on March 10, 2004 at Aiello’s Cafe in Ridgway, PA. The meeting will begin at 11:00 AM.
A motion was made by Tony Flint and seconded by Jerry Linsenbigler to adjourn the meeting. The motion passed. The meeting adjourned at 12:35 PM.
