DISTRICT 9 COMMITTEE MEETING
RIDGWAY, PA
On September 10, 2003 a special meeting of the District 9 Committee was held at Aiello’s Café in Ridgway, PA. Chairman Hoover called the meeting to order.
The following members were present: Gary Elder, Tony Flint, Denny Geitner, Terry Hoover, Jeff Jovenitti, Jerry Linsenbigler, Jim Manners, Aaron Straub, Susan Valentine, Tom Wagner, and Bob Wicker.
A motion was made by Gary Elder and seconded by Jim Manners to accept the minutes of the August 13, 2003 meeting with one clarification. The PIAA Sportsmanship Award will be based on sportsmanship for one school year, which includes three sports seasons. The motion carried.
A motion was made Susan Valentine and seconded by Bob Wicker to accept the treasurer’s report. The motion carried.
A motion was made by Bob Wicker and seconded by Sue Valentine to authorize the payment of bills. The motion carried.
ELIGIBILITY:
A motion was made by Gary Elder and seconded by Susan Valentine to grant athletic eligibility to the following foreign exchange students:
Maria Lopez Punxsutawney Area High School
Isabella Zito Punxsutawney Area High School Fernanda Brita Smethport Area High School
Tien Tran Elk County Catholic High School
Moe Kodera Brockway Area High School
The motion carried.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
The finance committee will meet at 10:30 am on September 24, 2003. The soccer committee will meet at 10:00 am on September 24, 2003. The football committee will meet on September 24th at a time to be determined.
GOLF: (TONY FLINT, CHAIRMAN)
The number of qualifiers to the boys’ tournament will be increased. Information concerning increasing the number of qualifiers will be included with the entry forms.
VOLLEYBALL (AARON STRAUB, CHAIRMAN)
The number of games to play at the junior varsity and junior high level is to be determined by conferences or leagues. The “A” final matches will be played at St. Marys Area High School and the “AA” matches will be played at a site to be determined.
OLD BUSINESS:
The committee discussed the using Clarion University’s stadium for the District 9 football and soccer playoffs. Further discussion will take place at the September 24th meeting.
A motion as made by Gary Elder and seconded by Denny Geitner to move the March 24, 2004 meeting to March 10, 2004. The motion carried.
A motion was made by Denny Geitner and seconded by Gary Elder to move the April 21, 2004 meeting to April 20, 2004. The motion carried.
HEARING:
Ms Susan Valentine, Principal at Northern Potter High School, requested a hearing to determine the eligibility of a student in the Northern Potter High School. The request was made under Article VIII Section 6. Ms Valentine, the student, and his mother, presented testimony. Deliberation followed the testimony. During the deliberations and voting, Ms Valentine was not present.
A motion was made by Tony Flint and seconded by Jerry Linsenbigler to deny eligibility to the Northern Potter High school student under Article VIII Section. 6E. The motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS:
No new business was conducted.
The next District 9 Committee meeting will be on September 24, 2004 at Aiello’s Café, Ridgway, PA. The meeting will begin at 11:00 am.
