DISTRICT 9 COMMITTEE

SPECIAL MEETING

JULY 7, 2004

 

A special meeting of the District 9 Committee was called by Assistant Chairman, Jim Manners.  The meeting was held at Aiello’s Café, Ridgway, PA and was called to order at 7:00 PM by Mr.  Manners.

 

Due to the retirement of Chairman Larry Stiner from the Clearfield Area School District, the committee had to meet to elect a new chairman.

 

A motion was made by Gary Elder and seconded by Dave Stanley to nominate James Manners for the office of chairman.  A motion was made by Denny Geitner and seconded by Gary Elder to close nominations.  The motion carried unanimously.

A motion was made by Roger Collins and seconded by Denny Geitner to nominate Aaron Straub as the assistant chairman.  A motion was made by Denny Geitner and seconded by Gary Elder to close nominations.  The motion carried unanimously.

A motion was made by Bob Wicker and seconded by Gary Elder to select a person to fill Mr.Stiner’s position on the district committee at the September 22, 2004 meeting.  The motion carried.

Any person interested in this committee position must submit in writing their intent to Chairman Jim Manners or Secretary Bob Tonkin by September 15, 2004.

 

The starting time for committee meetings was discussed.  The starting time for the September, October, and November meeting will be 1:00 PM.

 

The football committee met prior to the district committee meeting.  A motion was made by Gary Elder and seconded by Tony Flint to accept the committee’s recommendation for the 2004 – 2005 “A” football playoffs.  The motion carried unanimously.

A motion was made by Gary Elder and seconded by Jeff Jovenitti to accept the committee’s recommendation for the 2004 – 2005 “AA” football playoffs.  The motion carried unanimously.

A motion was made by Gary Elder and seconded by Roger Collins to accept the committee’s recommendation for the 2004 – 2005 “AAA” football playoffs.  The motion carried unanimously.

A copy to the football playoff structure is enclosed.

 

Reports from the summer workshop were presented.  Any motion passed at a summer workshop is a recommendation that will be presented to the Board of Directors.  Any recommendation passed by the Board of Directors will be included in your minutes or can be found in the PIAA Newsletter.

 

Officials’ tests will be given the first Monday in October, February, and June.  The test will be given at the Officials’ Convention in August.  The convention is held in Harrisburg.  There is a possibility tests will be given on-line.

 

A motion was made by Susan Valentine and seconded by Gary Elder to accept a letter explaining the action taken by the Johnsonburg Area High School administration to avoid a player participating in the next game following an ejection.  The motion carried unanimously.

 

There will be a short Policy Committee meeting at the August district committee meeting.

 

The next District 9 Committee meeting will be August 11, 2004 at 9:00 at Elk County Catholic High School.

 

The meeting adjourned at 8:30 PM.
