GIRLS’ DISTRICT IX GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

      TO:     Principals/Athletic Directors/Girls’ Golf Coaches

FROM:     Tony Flint, District IX Golf Chairman

DATE:      September 13, 2010

RE:      2010 District IX Girls’ Golf Tournament

Enclosed you will find the information regarding the District IX Girls’ Golf Championship.  Please forward this information to your Girls’ Golf Coach and be sure to meet all deadlines for entries.

The goal of the District championship is to identify potential golfers for the PIAA state championship.  If a school doesn’t have participants that meet that standard, they should not feel compelled to register participants.

Entry fees are required for participation in all District IX Championships.  For District IX golf, an individual fee of $7.50 per participant is required.  Mr. Robert Tonkin, District IX Treasurer will bill schools at the conclusion of the fall season for their entry fees and lunch costs.

If you should have any questions, please feel free to give me a call at (814) 642-2596, Ext. 230 or e-mail me at tflint@pasdedu.org.

Thank you.

GIRLS’ DISTRICT IX GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

  DATE:          Monday, October 4, 2010

PLACE:          Bavarian Hills Golf Course – St. Marys

   TIME:          9:30 a.m. – Coaches’ Meeting

                        10:00 a.m. – Shotgun Start

Please send the following information to Tony Flint, District IX Girls’ Golf Chairman by Tuesday, September 28.

The tournament will be held on Monday, October 4 at the Bavarian Hills Golf Course, at 10:00 a.m.   A lunch will provided for players and coaches.  Schools will be billed at the conclusion of the tournament for their lunch costs.

Appropriate golf attire is required of players and coaches for practice rounds and championship competition.  No jeans or tee-shirts are permitted.

District IX will qualify 3 players to the western regional competition at Toms Run Country Club on October 18 in Blairsville.  From the western regional, 11 girls will advance to the state tournament in York on October 24-26 at Heritage Hills.

In order to participate in the team competition, a school’s top 4 players must have a composite average of 235 or less.  All 4 scores will count toward determing the team champion that will advance to Toms Run on October 18.

The PIAA has requested that each District Golf Tournament use markers and marshals.  All coaches will serve as stroke counters, markers, or marshals.  The Tournament Director may assign coaches additional duties.  To comply with PIAA regulations, caddies are not permitted.  Each player must carry her own bag.  Range finders are not permitted.

Schools should list their top two scoring players on their entry form as their school’s representatives for the District IX Golf Championship.  Additional players may participate if they have a scoring average of 48 for a minimum of 6 varsity competitions. Tri-matches and quad-matches count as a single competition and therefore one score.  All varsity competitions must be counted not simply the best 6.  Additional qualifiers must have a higher qualifying score than the schools top two golfers

If your school does not have a golf team, but would like to enter individuals, this is permissible.  In order to enter an individual, you must assure that a responsible person will accompany the girl or girls to the tournament, and be responsible for supervising them during the tournament.

If you are planning such an arrangement, you should contact Tony Flint, District IX Golf Chairman.   A statement from your principal indicating who the designated school representative for the golf championship is is required.

Practice rounds must be arranged by contacting the Bavarian Hills Golf Course.  The Pro Shop will assist and arrange a time for you to play the course.    Each participant will be permitted one complimentary 18-hole practice round.  If a participant wishes to play additional times, they must pay the established green fee rate at the Bavarian Hills Golf Course.

The following days and times are available for practice rounds.

            September 25                                    after 3:30 p.m.

            September 26                                    after 12 p.m.
